The International Mersey River Festival starts today and we hope you can join us! To help you plan your visit we’ve put together a one – off newsletter to act as your guide to what’s on and where. We know you love to have a dance and enjoy a party Liverpool and this year the International Mersey River Festival has not one but three stages for you to enjoy, this year sponsored by Wilmott Dixon.

Main Stage: The main stage at the Pier Head will start tonight as we celebrate BBC Music Day from 5.00pm with an amazing line up of acts to get the weekend started and we continue the party until 11.00pm tonight!

Saturday and Sunday are family friendly affairs – on Saturday we provide the perfect soundtrack to a soultastic day of funk and soul before we take time out on Sunday with a musical legend to enjoy some classic songs – perfect for getting your dancing shoes on! Sound Waves Stage at Mann Island Basin – grass roots performances from community choirs and musicians and a programme of street theatre on Saturday and Sunday.

Ship Stage at Hartley Quay (Kaskelot) – in celebration of our twinning with the Dublin River Festival, Saturday’s music will be dedicated to all things Irish with Sunday playing host to laid back classics and acoustic tracks From a spectacular Friday night of music to a weekend bursting with toe-tapping hits – you’ll definitely need your dancing shoes.

Rolling on the River…

Phoenix Tall Ship

The River Mersey is at the heart of our International Mersey River Festival and over the weekend there’s no end to the activities taking place on and above the water.

If water sports are more your thing why not head towards the River to watch the adrenaline fueled British Thundercat racing team in competition? Or how about the Jet Ski Stunt Display team? WOW! The race continues for first place as well in the UK’s only professional wakeboard tour – one not to be missed!

From adrenaline fueled power boat races to quirky canal boats and tall ship treats we have a delightful array of beautiful boats and Tall Ships if you prefer a slower pace at the event. TheTall Ship Phoenix and Tall Ship Kaskelot are both in for the event as well as the beautifully restored Daniel Adamson. If you’re in the mood for purchasing, would like to take a closer look or need to catch up on your maritime shopping – do make a visit to the fantasticNorthern Boat Show!

Shore Side Fun

If the thought of stepping off dry land makes you slightly green, don’t fret – there’s plenty of activities shore side for our land lubbers!

There’s guided tours around the waterfront, theLiverpool Model Boat Show and displays by theRoyal Marines – something to suit everyone.

We’ve not forgotten the kids either – keep a look out for the various street theatre acts around the waterfront, can you spot them all?

If you want to take time out, we have not one buttwo family zones and there’s plenty of children’s workshops with Build a City in lego,Urban Canvas pavement art and Sun Photography workshops.

Don’t forget to look up aswell for the Yakovlev arial displays!

Waterfront Trail

While you’re visiting the International Mersey River Festival, keep a look out for the Waterfront trail icons, sponsored by AB Engineering.

You can follow the trail along the event, pick up a map from the Tourist Information Centre and walk the trail where you can find out interesting facts about our waterfront.

Want to know what’s on and when? Have a question or query? We are here to help!

Our Tourist Information Team have two sites at the International Mersey River Festival – the mobile TIC is located at the entrance to the Albert Dock and the second is in Anchor Courtyard in the Family Zone. If you have any questions about the city, would like some advice on things to see at the event or would like to purchase a momento of your visit – do pop along and say hello.

Throughout the weekend our Culture Ambassadors are on hand with brochures, travel advice and support – they’re very friendly and are here to help.

We do hope you can join us for the weekend and to help you get here, why don’t you get the train? Our pals at Merseyrail have a  Family Day Ticket which can be used for up to 2 adults and 3 children (aged 5-15) for £10 – perfect for bringing all the family along!

Or you can buy an All Zone Day Saver that costs £5 for adults and £2.50 for young people, valid for unlimited one day travel over the weekend.
