Keen runner Erica Dillon is taking on the Virgin London Marathon this April to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.

As well as the 26.2-mile run, the 39-year-old who lives in Ainsdale also has an epic fundraising challenge ahead to raise £2,000 for the charity.

This will be Erica’s 10th Marathon – but it will also be her biggest to date when she stands on the start line on Sunday 22 April alongside 40,000 runners.

This coming Saturday (3 February), she will stage the second Fashion & Fizz vintage fashion evening at Mary Jones Glamour & Vintage showroom, 660 Liverpool Road. The event starts at 6.30pm and includes fizz and nibbles, vintage fashion for men and women, mini massages, skincare and beauty, and a prize raffle. Tickets are £10, advance booking is advised.

Then two weeks later on Sunday, 18 February, Erica has organised a multi-terrain trail run through the Formby Pinewoods.

The Woodland Womble will start and finish at MeCycle next to Ainsdale Train Station. Runners will meet from 10am, setting off at 10.30am. Three routes have been planned to cover five, seven or nine miles so participants can choose their preferred distance. Suggested donation is £5.

Erica commented: “This is going to be a very special year for me. London will be my 10th Marathon; it’ll be just weeks after I turn the big 40; and a decade since I worked for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service on the World Firefighters Games 2008 – so it’s the perfect time to give something back.

“Firefighters put their lives on the line every single day. So it’ll be a real honour and privilege to represent The Fire Fighters Charity at the London Marathon.

Let’s celebrate the incredible job the Fire Service do 24 hours a day, seven days a week – let’s do our bit for our Fire Heroes.”
