Iconic city landmark Royal Albert Dock Liverpool is set to become part of the BTR Liverpool Santa Dash route for the very first time.

The 15th annual festive spectacular takes place on Sunday 2 December – when up to 10,000 festive runners will make their way through the estate of the Grade I Listed attraction.

Organisers BTR Liverpool have changed the established route due to the closure of Churchill Flyover for essential works – and are delighted to welcome Royal Albert Dock Liverpool as part of this year’s event.

Clare Rawlinson, Head of Marketing & Business Development at Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, commented:

“The BTR Liverpool Santa Dash is one of the most iconic events on the city’s annual calendar, with many local families seeing it as the official start to their Christmas celebrations.

“Royal Albert Dock Liverpool is thrilled to be supporting the event and becoming part of the route for the first time. We look forward to welcoming thousands of jolly Santas through the estate on 2 December!”

For the second successive year, Arriva North West has also got into the festive spirit by kindly offering Santas free travel on the Arriva bus network across Merseyside throughout Santa Dash day.

To claim complimentary bus travel to or from the city centre, Santas must be wearing their Santa suit and race number or afterwards their finishers’ medal.

Lisa Pearson, Head of Marketing, Arriva North West and Wales, added:

“The Santa Dash is such a great event that really unites the people of Liverpool, which is why we are so delighted to be able to help support the city by offering free travel to all those in their Santa suits and race numbers on the day of the dash.

“Members of the team here at Arriva will also be taking part – and we’re very excited to see lots of red and blue Santas on board our buses.”

The BTR Liverpool Santa Dash on Sunday 2 December starts at 9.30am. Santas will gather on the start line at Pier Head Liverpool, part of the city’s iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site. Radio City Breakfast Show hosts Leanne and Dave will officially start the event.

The route will then take Santas through Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and the city centre, before crossing the finish line outside Liverpool Town Hall on Dale Street where they will be greeted by festive characters and ‘real’ snow.

The 1K Mini Dash for under 12s will start at approximately 11am, once all participants in the main Santa Dash have completed the course. The Mini Dash starts in Castle Street and also finishes at Liverpool Town Hall.

The support of Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and Arriva North West follows last week’s announcement that the BTR Liverpool Santa Dash will be featured by national television station, Channel 5.

The BTR Liverpool Santa Dash has been specially chosen as the official fundraising event partner for Channel 5’s new national festive campaign, Help The Animals at Christmas.

Help The Animals at Christmas is raising awareness and funds for five incredible UK animal charities RSPCA, Scottish SPCA, Blue Cross, The Donkey Sanctuary and Wildlife Aid Foundation.

Help The Animals at Christmas will culminate with a new live show on Friday 21 December, broadcast live on Channel 5 from Salford’s Media City.

Presenters already confirmed for the live show are Strictly Come Dancing contestant and news presenter Kate Silverton, comedienne Susan Calman, and television personalities Gabby Roslin, John Thomson and Michael Underwood. Jeremy Vine’s Storm Huntley will also be on hand to manage the live social media hub.

Santas taking part in the UK’s biggest festive fun run are invited to support the by raising cash while they dash.

Special guests and Channel 5 film crews will be present on the day to join in the Santa Dash fun, and footage will be broadcast as part of the special programme.

First staged in 2004, the BTR Liverpool Santa Dash was created by BTR Liverpool Race Director Alan Rothwell and is the UK’s biggest festive run fun.

BTR Liverpool is the leading independent organisation for creating, managing and delivering headline race events across Liverpool City Region.

BTR Race Director Alan Rothwell added:

“We are delighted to welcome Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and Arriva North West on-board as partners of the 15th annual BTR Liverpool Santa Dash. They join St Johns Shopping Centre, Radio City, and Channel 5’s Help The Animals at Christmas festive charity campaign. Their support is paramount and we are thrilled to be working together, on what promises to be a very exciting year for the event.

“The new route will see Santas pass through the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool estate, and will further showcase our amazing city to homegrown Santas and those travelling from further afield. And I am confident that Arriva North West’s kind offer of free travel for Santas will prove extremely popular on the day.

“The sea of red, blue and mini Santas is an incredible sight, and the Santa Dash atmosphere really is something special. Join us and be part of the UK’s biggest festive fun run – you may even spot yourself on television!”

For the first time in the event’s 15-year history, there is a virtual run option for anyone who would like to take part but cannot be there in person on the day. Virtual run entries will be sent their race pack, Santa suit and medal.

Virtual runners are invited to send their pictures to alan@btrliverpool.com and they will be added to the Santa Dash virtual gallery. Some of the best pictures will be shown on Channel 5 during the special TV show.
