Delivering on his promise to constantly provide new and exciting dishes, Head Chef of Canto, Carlos Gomes, has introduced a new menu at the popular neighbourhood restaurant.

Showcasing the best dishes from across Portugal, the new menu sees some of the Cotton Street restaurant’s most popular specials become a permanent feature, making way for a raft of new seasonal dishes.

Earning their place on the main menu further to demand are three of the restaurant’s original launch specials: salt cod fritters with tartare sauce; grilled squid, tomato and onion sauce with spring onion tempura; and poached cod with roasted peppers in a sultana and pine nut dressing.

The popular small plates, or petiscos as known in Portugal, are joined by a number of new specials, all harnessing the freshest and finest seasonal ingredients.   Dishes are suitably hearty and see a good mix of meat and vegetable options catering for all appetites.

Amongst the new additions are smoked sausage croquette with black garlic mayonnaise; tender chargrilled pork chop with white beans, chorizo and pancetta; butternut squash, cavolo nero and toasted pearl barley; roasted celeriac in a watercress sauce with crispy seaweed, and, for a lighter bite, olives marinated in orange and thyme.

A velvety carrot cake with a white chocolate, walnut tuile and lime mousse is the perfect addition to the dessert menu.

Speaking on the new menu, Carlos said:  “In Portugal it is common to see menus refreshed every few weeks, with dishes harnessing the very best seasonal produce introduced.  It has always been my intention to bring the same approach to Canto.  As a neighbourhood restaurant, it’s important to keep the offer fresh whilst retaining popular favourites, I look forward to seeing which dishes people take to their heart. ”

 

Launching alongside the seasonal menu is Canto Selection – a new set menu.  Available Tuesday to Sunday until 6pm, Canto Selection provides diners with the opportunity to choose any three signature and classic Portuguese dishes, for just £15.
